Overall description

The emoticons for digsby is located in digsby installation directory\res\emoticons\default\, e.g. C:\Program Files\Digsby\res\emoticons\default\ on Microsoft Windows. Currently only one emoticons set is supported by digsby, but the existence of the "default" folder suggests that we might be able to have multiple emoticons set in the future.

You can get a list of emoticons sets that people have created over at the downloads page.

An emoticons set consists of one or more image files and a file named emoticons.txt.

The emoticons.txt file

This is a simple ASCII text file where the first line gives the emoticons set a name and the next line(s) maps a certain image to one or more text strings that when typed by you or someone you're talking to, will be replaced by the image. Here is an excerpt from a sample emoticons.txt:

MSN
smile.gif :) :-)
surprised.gif :-O :o
wink.gif ;-) ;)
confused.gif :-S :s
crying.gif :'(
hot.gif (H) (h)
angel.gif (A) (a)
donttell.gif :-#
nerd.gif 8-|

Images

Both PNG and GIF images are confirmed working as emoticons.

Warning

During software update, digsby will probably overwrite the changes you have done to your emoticons. Always take backups of your changes! If after an auto-update your emoticon set is lost, just replace it with your backup.
