How to setup Facebook Chat in Digsby

To be able to chat with your friends on Facebook through Digsby, you will have to add Facebook Chat as an IM account (even if you already have Facebook setup as a social network).

1. Fire up Digsby and on top of your buddy list window, select Digsby - My Accounts....

Using Facebook Chat in Digsby

  1. Make sure you are connected with your Facebook Chat account. Either go to Digsby - My Accounts and make sure the Facebook Chat account is checked in the list or find the service in the buddy list (you might have to click a horizontal bar with two arrows to see it).

  2. Once connected, you should see your online Facebook friends in the buddy list under the "Contacts" group if you haven't grouped them. Double-click one of them and start chatting!

Troubleshooting

  1. Suddenly Facebook Chat stopped working
There may be many reasons for this. First and foremost, Facebook Chat is a rather new service, it has been reported to be unstable. Retry every now and then for half an hour and see if it comes back. Also, try to re-enter your login information. If it still fails, check the digsby blog for any updates or see if Facebook Chat actually works on Facebook itself. Lastly, check the official forums or come to the #digsby IRC channel for more help.
  2. I get Authentication Error
Make sure you've typed in your email address and password correctly. Then try going to
    'c:\documents and settings\<windows username>\local settings\application data\digsby\cache\<digsby username>_cache' (XP) or
    'c:\users\<windows username>\AppData\Local\digsby\cache\<digsby username>_cache' (Vista)

and delete the folder named 'fbchat'. This folder is where your facebook login cookie is saved. Deleting it forces Digsby to get another one.

Other information
